Introduction

Data Analysis for Continuous School Improvement is among the top five books used regularly by the EBP project and its members to advance their agenda of creating educators who are evidence based in their practice and students who reach their learning potential. This very practical handbook introduces readers to the fundamental principles of using data as an integral part of their role as educators. It also offers a framework for structuring the school improvement process, including specific tools, timelines and strategies that are ready to use. There are many diagrams, rubrics and even artefacts that can be adapted to implement your own plan or provide professional development to teachers.

Summary

The Lead Data Team’s (LDT) Professional Development (PD) sessions exist to provide time and support for educators to test different models of data literacy. Using the tools from Data Analysis for Continuous School Improvement, the EBP promotes in-depth learning and understanding about the types of data that can be used in school boards and schools. The tools and frameworks in the book are also used to assist the CARE members in their advanced data analysis and student engagement workshops.

Recommendation

The tools provided by Data Analysis for Continuous School Improvement are very useful resources for school data teams, administrators and consultants providing professional development sessions on using data to improve student achievement.
